Make Coffee Healthy Again ☕️
Coffee can get a bad wrap in the health world, but when done right it can actually be very beneficial for the body.
Benefits include:
☕️ Stimulating the metabolism
☕️ Detoxifying the liver
☕️ Providing antioxidants
☕️ Improving mineral balance
☕️ Increasing insulin sensitivity
But most coffee is NOT done right.
How We Mess It Up
Conventional coffee is often heavily contaminated with mold, mycotoxins (toxic byproduct of mold), and pesticides.
Consider we then use tap water (loaded with heavy metals + other toxic chemicals), creamers + non-dairy milks (loaded with seed oils, emulsifiers + other additives) and sweeteners (made from high fructose corn syrup or artificial sugars).
AND we’re consuming it on an empty stomach, which is like flooring the gas peddle on an empty tank. Not to mention doing so in a dehydrated state.
On top of it all, we’re doing it first thing in the morning, when our cortisol is naturally at its highest, leading to increased stress, anxiety + burdening the liver to produce sugars to meet the energy demand. Adding additional caffeine later in the day then has the ability to impact our sleep.
To reap the benefits of coffee, you need to do it differently.
Here’s how:
First we need to make sure there’s gas in the tank.
This means we need to be hydrated + nourished. Drink water with salt and have a protein-rich breakfast, then follow with coffee. Or at the very least, have it with food or make your coffee into a fuel source with protein, fat + carbs.
Choose clean brands
COFFEE:
CREAMERS:
Raw milk
Organic half+half
Organic heavy cream
PROTEIN POWDER:
Collagen
Protein powder (with or without flavor)
SUGAR
Real maple syrup
coconut sugar
organic cane sugar
Stevia or Monk Fruit (if diabetic or have poor insulin function)
Add Nutrients
Adding a bit of fat, protein + carbs to your coffee will allow provide your body with the necessary nutrients to put gas in the tank- especially if you’re going to drink it on an empty stomach. The only time black coffee is a good idea is when consumed with a meal!
Adding adaptogens can be an amazing way to help mitigate the undesirable side effects of caffeine, like crashes, jitters, anxiety, etc. For a full list of adaptogens, CLICK HERE.Some of my favorites:
Reishi Mushroom (Get it mixed in with your coffee for easier consumption!)
My favorite recipe:
1/2 cup coffee
1 cup raw milk
1 scoop collagen
3 tsp maple syrup
Serve cold or over ice.
I’ll even prep a big batch ahead of time in glass jars so they’re easy to grab and go.
Cheers to a better morning brew!
